I don't believe in culture ... I believe in encounters. -- Gilles Deleuze

Meat Meet 22: The Social Boot

Sunday August 1st 4-6 pm

Panel Discussion

The Social Boot is a network comprised of artists, organizers, athletes, and overall innovators across the South and beyond that intend to use their talents, whether through film, sport, fashion, research, art, or any other form of expression to redefine traditional viewpoints of what is expected in these forms of expression.

We plan to give opportunities to innovators that traditionally do not receive the opportunity to be authentically themselves due to boundaries placed on them by society. The Social Boot Network plans on putting together programming (such as art galleries, films, fashion shows, festivals, competitions, award banquets, etc.) that amplifies the voices of those that have not previously been able to (and have a desire to) access these things. The network provides a chance for connection, creative autonomy, exposure, improvement, and the opportunity to lead. Individuals are able to immerse themselves into projects that will broaden their network, define their craft, and ultimately expand their skillset. If you are looking for experience in film, fashion, art, event facilitating, or a number of other things here is your chance to do so without worrying about whether your appearance, location, or other uncontrollable factors will affect your ability to create and experience.

Currently, we are making a documentary that challenges the viewer to question their position in their respective communities, primarily through the lens of access to physical and mental healthcare. This documentary features a diverse array of characters, ranging from industry artists, healthcare professionals, professors, and world-class athletes, among others. We will also give insight into affected communities, such as Native American tribes, the formerly incarcerated, and youth organizations, among others. This film will lead you to question, “Am I an outsider?” and your answer before watching will inevitably be challenged.
