Taylor Scott

Taylor Scott is a writer, scholar, and performance artist currently serving as the 2023-24 Poet Laureate of Baton Rouge. Her most recent work lives in the form of recorded music. In July 2023, she released a 5-track EP entitled Term of Endearment (2023) with her band, Tilla, which is a multi-genre band that is operating primarily out of the Midwest. In 2022, she graduated from Louisiana State University with her PhD in English. Taylor completed her undergraduate degree in Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

She is an alumna of the First Wave Urban Arts program, the only collegiate hip hop theater ensemble and learning community of its kind in the country. Currently, Taylor is an Assistant Professor of English at Southern University and Agricultural & Mechanical College with teaching and research interests in African American literature, performance studies, Afro-pessimism, affect studies, and media studies.

In addition to reading her poetry and singing original songs, the host, Taylor C. Scott, is curating the space to include other local talent.
