Samantha Combs was born and raised in Upstate New York, in the small suburb of Queensbury.
She received her B.F.A. in painting and her B.A. in psychology, both with magna cum laude
distinction from the State University of New York at Potsdam in 2014. Following graduation,
Samantha worked for Syracuse University as an art enrichment teacher at an inner-city school in
Syracuse, NY till 2017, when she decided to pursue her M.F.A. degree at LSU which she
completed in 2020.

Her work simply explores the relationship of self to place. Specifically, that of an
individual’s internal/ emotional life to the shower. She is fascinated with what peoples’ thoughts
and emotions may look like as they’re metaphorically washed off their bodies and collected in
their shower’s drain pipes. Each work functions as an excavated cross-section of that imagined
subterranean landscape of residual soap and self-help book paper. They represent the weight of
any given individual’s internal life through psychological time.
